It was through her own transformative birth experiences that Christy came to know that her calling was to share the wonder and joy of pregnancy and birth by becoming a midwife. In 2008 she obtained her degree in Midwifery from the University of British Columbia. During clinical midwifery training she was fortunate to learn and work alongside midwives, nurses, family doctors and perinatologists, attending births in women’s homes, in rural and urban hospitals, and at a birthing program known for its many water births. In 2009 she partnered with Alyson Jones to create Willow Community Midwives in Penticton.
Christy has served on the UBC Midwifery Advisory Committee and the Midwives Association of BC Board of Directors, and is past President of the College of Midwives of BC Board of Directors. She currently sits on the CMBC committee on Indigenous Midwifery and a working group for Birth Centres in BC. Christy has a strong interest in continuing education and has received certification for advanced competency in STI management, Contraceptive Counselling and insertion of IUDs.
When she is not helping new babies into the world, Christy can be found spending time with her family and their dogs, making pottery, knitting, or curling up with a great book. She and her family enjoy hosting international high school students and introducing them to life in Canada.
Christy remains awed and inspired by the incredible power and fortitude of birthing women, and is deeply honoured to contribute to the emergence of new families.
